Edviron: Founder's Office Intern
Aug 2023 to Dec 2023 · Gurugram, India
Context
Edviron was an early stage company working in the education technology space, focusing on K–12 institutional clients.
I joined the Founder’s Office during my second year of undergraduate study, which was my first exposure to a professional startup environment.
The role placed me close to day to day business operations, client workflows, and decision making processes; allowing me to observe how early stage companies balance execution, sales, and resource constraints.
Problem
As the company scaled its client base, onboarding new K–12 institutions became increasingly time-consuming and inconsistent.
Client setup involved multiple manual steps, fragmented communication, and coordination between technical and business teams.
At the same time, the company was preparing materials for funding-related opportunities, including the Startup India grant application.
The challenge was to improve operational clarity while supporting ongoing business expansion.
Approach
Phase 1; Onboarding Workflow Improvements
A key responsibility involved supporting improvements to the client onboarding workflow.
This required aligning technical setup steps with sales-side communication to reduce delays and repetitive handoffs.
Key actions included:
– Mapping existing onboarding steps across teams
– Identifying redundant communication loops
– Coordinating between technical and sales teams
– Supporting implementation of simplified workflows
These changes significantly reduced onboarding time and improved internal coordination.
Phase 2; Grant Preparation & Business Support
In parallel, I contributed to research and business analysis work supporting the Startup India grant application process.
This involved:
– Conducting market research relevant to the company’s positioning
– Assisting in preparation of structured presentation material
– Supporting documentation used in evaluation and review stages
This work contributed to the successful approval of a ₹1M Startup India grant.
Phase 3; Hiring & Team Exposure
During this period, I also participated in early stage hiring processes for intern roles.
This included:
– Screening candidate submissions
– Observing interview workflows
– Supporting coordination during hiring cycles
This exposure helped me understand how early teams evaluate talent and build initial working culture.
Phase 4; Founder Exposure & Field Learning
Working closely with the founder also provided exposure to real world operational environments.
This included observing client interactions, field-level decision making, and networking conversations across different locations.
Being present in these environments helped me understand how relationship-building, negotiation, and trust shape business outcomes beyond structured plans.
Minor Technical Exposure
Alongside business responsibilities, I briefly collaborated with the technical team to understand basic product workflows and system behavior.
While not a core responsibility, this exposure helped bridge understanding between technical and business execution.
Insights
This experience shaped my understanding of how early stage companies operate beyond structured plans.
Some key learnings included:
- Operational clarity often matters more than technical complexity
- Founder led environments require strong communication and adaptability
- Hiring decisions significantly shape team culture in small organizations
- Networking and relationship-building are essential components of business growth
Outcome
This work resulted in:
– Reduction of client onboarding time by ~60%
– Successful support toward ₹1M Startup India grant approval
– Improved coordination between business and technical teams
– Early exposure to hiring, networking, and founder-led operations
